Tongue bite!
Teeth aren’t the only things that can be traumatized in a fall 😝
CC: bit tongue during fall, pain, bleeding
Dx: tongue laceration of approximately 2 cm on right lateral border
Tx: nothing!
🔑: To suture or not to suture? According to the literature, not all tongue lacerations require sutures. One paper states that indications for sutures appears to be lacerations larger than 2 cm or gaping at rest but the decision is solely up to the treating physician and the case itself. Children heal remarkably well and the rush to suture may increase healing time and complication risk. In this case, we did not suture and the child had a speedy recovery as predicted.
